After looking at the uses and gratifications theory which suggests why people use the media, we need to apply it to our own film to see how it can be appreciated by a wider audience.
Diversion (escapism)
Our film, 'Marshlands' would act as a form of escapism for our audience as it surfaces emotions that they would not generally feel in every day life. Although our film possesses feelings of terror and realism, they will not be brought to life in a way that it will be taken seriously to the extent that the audience will relate it to the real world.
Personal Identity
It is questionless that our audience will be able to empathise/relate with at least one of the characters in the film at one point or another as there is a strong mixture of personalities and characteristics within the group.
Surveillance (information)
As our film is in every way fictional with it's primary function being to entertain, it would not be suitable to say that this piece would be could be used as an educational resource.
Personal Relationships (social interaction)
It is part of our intentions that this film could be watched by a number of people at one given time/seating either for casual home entertainment or at a social event. Elements of the thriller should spike mutual talking points such as their interpretations of how the characters are coping with the situation.
Entertainment
The primary role of this piece is to entertain a target audience by arousing certain emotions that are not generally shown through everyday life. This film allows the viewer to explore features of their mind, that would not generally be accepted in everyday society, through film.
